"And in those simple beautiful movements I remembered what was really important in training; that consistency trumps intensity; all the time. That intensity is born from consistency. That one cannot force it, one has to lay in wait for it, patiently, instinctively, calmly and be ready to grab it when Grace lays it down in front of you."

Wow. White and Jewish, he's got alot going against him :)

that guy is a stud!!!!
LOL, can't dance either I bet.
Thanks for that one. I wasn't aware of David Rigert and his achievements.
I'm not as familiar with the achievements of Jewish male athletes as I am with those of Jewish female athletes, and that's mostly thanks to Hadassah's "Jewish+Female=Athlete" calendar.
you're welcome mich,
didnt know he was jewish til recently either.
forget being Jewish--he's one of the best athletes of all time--Jewish or not--he just gets extra credit for being a member of the Tribe...
Amen Brother Geoff.
I was in the audience for that contest in 1975. It was billed as Europe vs The Americas which meant Cuba was acutally part of our team. Rigert's lifting was the highlight of the meet. Alexeev was there but did not lift due to an "injury" but it may have been more about to his appearance fee.
