Cheryl Anderson demonstrates a triple body deadlift and the Dive technique
"And in those simple beautiful movements I remembered what was really important in training; that consistency trumps intensity; all the time. That intensity is born from consistency. That one cannot force it, one has to lay in wait for it, patiently, instinctively, calmly and be ready to grab it when Grace lays it down in front of you."

Wow! That's an impressive pull. She actually seemed to time that very well. I've seen some guys try to use that technique and I've tried it a couple times myself, but I'm not a big fan. I assume the idea behind it is to call into play the stretch reflex, but if you overshoot and "jerk" the slack out, couldn't that cause the GTO to just shut you right down? I'd love to hear your input on this Mark. You know way more about it than I do!
yeah, with the dive technique timing is everything. I actually used that technique (conventional) for a long time, pulling 467 with it at 181( when I was just starting) but it became unpredictable after that.
part of the theory is that the qucik pull creates it's own stretch reflex that you dont get with the deadlift, plus it really works well for explosive lifters( thats one of the reasons it worked well for me)with poor starting strength.
Doing tons of box squats really helped my starting strength as well as my back and hip strenght allowing me to use a more reliable form.
as far as the jerk shutting down the muscles it also depends on how fast it gets you going. If you can time the stretch relflex well you can get pass your sticking point before anything 'shuts down'.
in the video cheryl does a good job of grinding through her sticking point as she had enough speed to get into a solid position to finish.
Lots of great deadlifters(Rickey Dale crain for one) use a dive or modified dive.
but if you are off an inch it might as well be a mile.
Wow. I've seen guys pull conventional like that, I've never seen it done sumo. I suppose that's one way to cure staying down too long. LOL.
yeah that surprised me too. I didnt expect her to pull that fast, although I have seen it done sumo, many times actually. sumo is usually most hard off the ground. the common logic for most sumo lifters is if they can break it off the ground they can finish it.
But ten pounds too heavy can look like 100 pounds too heavy.lol.
brought back memories though.
Yep! I've seen that in person! Cheryl is awesome... Plus she is a very kind generous person full of helpful advice! Thanks for posting this video Mark!
you're welcome Fawn, thought you would like that.
