Thanks to Aaron Friday for the motivation for this one. I was feeling very good about my 305 rep pr witht he 24 kg ( which beat Aarons pr by a measley 5 reps) when he goes and puts the number into the stratosphere with 400 reps!
After my 60 sets of 7 in the max vo2 wednesday told me that my conditioning wasnt as bad as I thought it might be I decided to give 400 reps with the 20 kg a go.The only thing I was concerned about was tearing but other than that I thought it shouldnt be that much of a problem.
20 sets of 10/10 would do it.
SO........
Snatch
12kgx10/10
16kgx5/5x2
20 kg x10/10 x 20 sets
400 reps All Time volume PR
17,600 lbs
Not bad at all although I have to confess that I resorted to my gymnastics grips for the last three sets as the hands were HOT and I need to be able to swing on Monday.Havent used the grips in three years but it was fun.Definitely brought back the old feeling of getting ready to swing rings or high bar. Great fun!
Used my modified corkscrew on the left and hardstyle on the right until the last 100 reps when I went HS on both hands.
here's set five
Here's the last set, grips and all
dat was all I wanted to do today. Not bad. There were three of us in a rotation so thats how long I rested.Rex was snatching and Nikko was speed squatting.
datsit!NOW I have to do it with the 24 kg!And, oh yes, Bikrams tomorrow! I have really missed my yoga practice and hopefully will get back on track tomorrow.
"And in those simple beautiful movements I remembered what was really important in training; that consistency trumps intensity; all the time. That intensity is born from consistency. That one cannot force it, one has to lay in wait for it, patiently, instinctively, calmly and be ready to grab it when Grace lays it down in front of you."

Good work, that's a boatload of snatches.
Very nice! How long did that take you?
You said you rested while someone else went, but overall what was your approx. time?
Those grips look cool. If you wear them all the time it might save the hands or would they take away from the form? Just curious.
Thanks
thanks jordan. its not bad if I say so myself.
bob, probably just over an hour.I never watch the clock on saturdays when i train. I go when I'm ready.I tend to go faster as I warm up and that takes awhile.
oh yea, the grips. like I said, this is the first time in two plus years I have worn them but I will reconsider it now as they worked great.
doesnt change the form at all, in fact they can help you get the bell in a good finger tip grip more easily.
I will use them as today, when the skin or the grip gives out and I want to continue snatching.
ps
why limit the snatch training to the grip limits, actually?
Oh I didn't know the grips actually made you hold onto it. I thought they were simply to protect the hands. That's what I need right now. :)
Awesome Rif! Always impressive to see you KB endurance and work capacity to high!
bob, they do both.
Congratulations, that's a great big load!
Oh, and those life-saving grips... what memories they bring back :))
thanks gabi
and yes, it was cool having my grips on and remembering what it was like just getting ready to get up to the bar or rings to swing.I lived in those things for so many years.
Awesome job, Rif! All sets of 10/10, too, which is about as straightforward as you can get.
500 with that weight would be nice round number.
dammit aaron. let me catch up a bit with thr 24 first willya?lol.
have fun
Which do you think would be easier?
* 500 reps with 20kg
* 405 reps with 24kg
500 with 20 kg
I think you should nail 500 reps with the 20kg first, given your momentum and currently light weight. When the weather cools down and you've gained some weight back, the 24 is yours for new PRs.
I'll be focusing on the 5-minute test and long sets from now until September. I'll be really happy if I can break PRs in these two things.
