"And in those simple beautiful movements I remembered what was really important in training; that consistency trumps intensity; all the time. That intensity is born from consistency. That one cannot force it, one has to lay in wait for it, patiently, instinctively, calmly and be ready to grab it when Grace lays it down in front of you."

Ruck Steady
Long day at work and was ready to get into this and get it over with! I was ready to eat. That always makes me walk faster, plus it was actually cold on a thursday afternoon for once. Even started out with a jacket but had to to ditch that after three laps; just heat up too much and it really impedes my performance. Or at least my perceived exertion.
Anyway decent speed and the body felt fine. Legs loose and quick and right foot ok
45 lb ruck
6 laps
50 min !
no timed laps but most felt around 7:30-7:40
strong steady state and lungs were good
BW 169.4
BF12.7
W 56.7
feel good and very optimistic about my press

Its amazing what disapears first on me when I have to miss training. My glutes and hips go first; amazingly quickly too, and then the quads....

Mark I want to add rucking to my training regimen. Can you provide gear tips for a beginner? I don’t have a ruck sack, or boots, or something to load the ruck sack with. I am willing to invest some dollars on the necessary tools but also don’t want to go overboard. I live in the city so it would mostly be sidewalks for the rucks, though I have access to a long set of stairs to a beach and back. Do you always keep your rucking to flat ground?
Chris
Do you want to get a ruck that will last you as you build the load or a cheaper model to see if you like it and then get a better one later?
I just use kitty litter and sand as weight pretty cheap
I like the 5.11 Rush 72 but there are tons of options
wear sturdy shoes but I haven't walked for real for years so I wanted more study foot wear

and yes in deference to my replaced knee I stay on flat ground and soft dirt path working on increasing speed and overall endurance rather than hills
Thanks Mark, this is very helpful info.
you're welcome Chris. thanks for the comment
Hi Mark. I started rucking about a year and a half ago thanks to you and Goruck. How long of a distance are your laps? Thanks in advance.
