The New York Times > Books > On the Run With Dean Karnazes: A Runner's Quest for the Ache of Life
Ah the joys of OCD. Brings back good memories of my ultra days. In all seriousness though, he is right. People need more pain and suffering, at least around here. They have it so easy and complain so much. Training pain is a safe substitute and builds as much conciousness as the pain of life tragedy.
"And in those simple beautiful movements I remembered what was really important in training; that consistency trumps intensity; all the time. That intensity is born from consistency. That one cannot force it, one has to lay in wait for it, patiently, instinctively, calmly and be ready to grab it when Grace lays it down in front of you."
