My first real workout with my 15 year old son Gabriel. He benched a solid 135 pounds weighing 145 pounds himself and having done little but pushups in the last year. And damn few of those to boot!
But I was SO proud of him and felt so connected to my boy, soon to be a man.It was a serious moment when I changed the weights from 128 of small plates to the one big plate that weighed 135 with the bar. He momentarily freaked out and doubted whether he could accomplish this huge feat, those giant plates.
But like I hoped he would, he dug down, focused in and made the lift.He HAS been paying attention.today was a very good day.Afterwards, we had mexican food and cokes and some great conversation.I will remember this day the rest of my life.
"And in those simple beautiful movements I remembered what was really important in training; that consistency trumps intensity; all the time. That intensity is born from consistency. That one cannot force it, one has to lay in wait for it, patiently, instinctively, calmly and be ready to grab it when Grace lays it down in front of you."
